Se recurre a la laparoscopia cuando quiere practicarse una cirugía menos invasiva. Este procedimiento también es llamado cirugía de la "curita" porque sólo requiere que se hagan pequeñas incisiones que permitan la introducción de los pequeños instrumentos quirúrgicos que se utilizan para observar los contenidos abdominales y realizar la cirugía.
