Expectativas después de la cirugía:

La mayoría de las personas se recupera por completo de la inserción y extracción de una sonda pleural y sólo deja una pequeña cicatriz.

Convalecencia:

El paciente debe permanecer hospitalizado hasta que se retire la sonda y mientras ésta se encuentre en el lugar, el personal de enfermería debe observar cuidadosamente posibles filtraciones de aire, dificultad para respirar y necesidad de oxígeno adicional que tenga el paciente. La persona necesitará respirar profundamente y toser con frecuencia para ayudar a reexpandir el pulmón, ayudar con el drenaje y evitar que los líquidos se acumulen en los pulmones.
