Efectos secundarios:

Comer demasiadas grasas saturadas es uno de los mayores factores de riesgo de cardiopatía. Una dieta alta en grasas saturadas hace que una sustancia cerosa y suave denominada colesterol se acumule en las arterias. El exceso de grasa también incrementa el riesgo de cardiopatía, debido a su alto contenido de calorías que incrementa la posibilidad de volverse obeso (otro factor de riesgo de cardiopatía y de algunos tipos de cáncer).

El consumo abundante de grasas poliinsaturadas puede incrementar el riesgo de algunos tipos de cáncer. El hecho de reducir el consumo diario de grasa no es garantía contra el desarrollo del cáncer o cardiopatía, pero sí ayuda a reducir los factores de riesgo.
