Recomendaciones:

El Comité de Nutrición y Alimentos del Instituto de Medicina (Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine ) ha establecido los siguientes consumos de referencia en la dieta para el cloruro:

Bebés:

  • 0-6 meses: 0.18 gr/día
  • 7-12 meses: 0.57 gr/día

Niños y adultos:

  • 1-3 años: 1.5 gr/día
  • 4-8 años: 1.9 gr/día
  • 9-50 años: 2.3 gr/día

Las personas mayores de 50 años deben consumir niveles ligeramente menores, mientras que las mujeres embarazadas y lactantes necesitan niveles ligeramente mayores. Se recomienda preguntarle al médico acerca de la cantidad considerada mejor para cada persona.

El cloruro se encuentra fácilmente disponible en el suministro de alimentos. De hecho, la mayoría de los estadounidenses probablemente consume más cloruro del necesario, en la forma de sal de cocina y la sal en alimentos preparados.
