Definición:

Un neonato es un bebé de 4 semanas o menos.

Información:

Un neonato también se denomina "recién nacido". El período neonatal --las primeras 4 semanas de la vida de un bebé-- representa un tiempo en el que los cambios son muy rápidos y se pueden presentar muchos eventos críticos.

Durante los primeros 30 días, se descubre la mayoría de los defectos presentes al nacer (congénitos) y pueden aparecer las anomalías genéticas. Las infecciones como el herpes congénito, los estreptococos del grupo B, la toxoplasmosis y otras afecciones médicas se manifiestan en el período neonatal a medida que comienzan a tener efectos sobre el bebé.
