Ácaros rojos; Ácaros de cosecha

Definición:

Son organismos (larvas) diminutos, de seis patas y sin alas que crecen hasta convertirse en un tipo de insecto llamado ácaro. Estos insectos se encuentran en el pasto alto y las malezas, y su picadura produce una picazón severa.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Las niguas se encuentran en el sur de los EE. UU. y en otros países. Suelen estar restringidas a ciertas áreas, como los sembrados de bayas, pastos y malezas altas, al igual que en los bordes de bosques madereros. Las niguas pican al ser humano alrededor de la cintura, en los tobillos y en pliegues cálidos de la piel.

La picazón suele ocurrir varias horas después de que estos insectos se han adherido a la piel.
