Enfermedades de la tiroides - Overview

Definición:

La glándula tiroidea está localizada en la parte frontal del cuello, justo bajo la laringe. Esta glándula produce químicos (hormonas) que ayudan al cuerpo a controlar el metabolismo. La hormona tiroidea normalmente se produce en respuesta a otra hormona secretada por la hipófisis.

Existen cuatro tipos principales de enfermedad de la tiroides:

  • Hipertiroidismo: demasiada hormona tiroidea
  • Hipotiroidismo: muy poca hormona tiroidea
  • Enfermedad tiroidea benigna (no cancerosa)
  • Cáncer de tiroides
