Definición:

Es un estiramiento y ruptura parcial o completa del ligamento interno de la articulación de la rodilla.

Consideraciones generales:

El ligamento lateral interno se extiende desde la superficie superior interna de la tibia hasta la superficie inferior interna del fémur. Este ligamento estabiliza la articulación en el interior de la rodilla.

Causas:

El ligamento lateral interno se lesiona usualmente cuando se ejerce presión sobre la articulación de la rodilla desde afuera.

A menudo, este ligamento se lesiona al mismo tiempo que se presenta la lesión del ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA).
