Definición:

Es un tipo de cáncer de riñón, en el cual las células cancerosas se encuentran en la capa que recubre unos tubos muy pequeños (túbulos) en el riñón.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El carcinoma de células renales es el tipo más común de cáncer renal en los adultos y ocurre con mayor frecuencia en personas de 50 a 70 años de edad, afectando típicamente a los hombres.

No se conoce con exactitud su causa.

Entre los factores de riesgo se incluyen:

  • Tratamiento con diálisis
  • Antecedentes familiares de la enfermedad
  • Genética
  • Tabaquismo
  • Enfermedad de von Hippel-Lindau (una enfermedad hereditaria que afecta los capilares del cerebro)
