Nefrocalcinosis - Información general

Definición:

Es un trastorno renal en el cual hay un aumento de la cantidad de calcio en los riñones.

La nefrocalcinosis puede ser causada por numerosas afecciones:

Los pedazos (depósitos) de oxalato de calcio o de fosfato de calcio se pueden desprender del riñón e ingresan a los túbulos renales y áreas entre ellos. Estos depósitos pueden ocasionar disminución de la función renal. Los pedazos de calcio pueden llevar a la formación de cálculos (nefrolitiasis).

La afección es relativamente común en bebés prematuros, en parte a causa de la pérdida intrínseca de calcio en el riñón y en parte por el aumento en la excreción de calcio cuando se les administran diuréticos de asa.
