Carcinoma papilar de tiroides

Síntomas:

El cáncer de tiroides usualmente comienza como una pequeña protuberancia (nódulo) en la glándula tiroides, que está localizada en la parte frontal del cuello. Sin embargo, se debe enfatizar que la mayoría de las protuberancias de la tiroides son inofensivas y no cancerosas (benignas).

Signos y exámenes:

Si la persona presenta un tumor en su tiroides, el médico ordenará exámenes de sangre y una ecografía de dicha glándula.

Si la ecografía muestra que el tamaño del tumor es mayor a 1.0 cm, se llevará a cabo una biopsia especial llamada aspiración con aguja fina (FNA, por sus siglas en inglés), con la cual se determina si el tumor es canceroso o benigno (no canceroso).

Las pruebas de la función tiroidea generalmente son normales en pacientes con cáncer de tiroides.
