Neumonía por micoplasma - Información general

Definición:

Es una infección de los pulmones causada por la bacteria Mycoplasma pneumoniae (M. pneumoniae).

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La M. pneumoniae es una causa común de neumonía que generalmente afecta a personas menores de 40 años. Diversos estudios sugieren que esta enfermedad produce entre el 15 y el 50% de todas las neumonías en adultos e incluso un porcentaje más alto de neumonía en los niños de edad escolar.

Las personas que se encuentran en mayor riesgo de adquirir neumonía por micoplasma incluyen aquellos que viven o trabajan en áreas concurridas como escuelas y hogares de personas abandonadas, aunque muchas personas que contraen la afección no presentan un factor de riesgo que se pueda identificar.
