Actinomicosis del pulmón

Definición:

Es una rara infección bacteriana en los pulmones.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La actinomicosis pulmonar es causada por uno de dos tipos de bacterias: actinomyces o propioni. Estas bacterias normalmente se encuentran en la boca y en el tracto gastrointestinal, donde por lo general no causan daño. Sin embargo, la mala higiene dental y los abscesos dentales pueden aumentar el riesgo de lesiones faciales, mandibulares y pulmonares causadas por estas bacterias.

El consumo excesivo de alcohol, tener cicatrices en los pulmones (bonquiectasias) y un enfisema están todos asociados con actinomicosis.

La actinomicosis en los pulmones produce cavidades pulmonares, nódulos pulmonares y derrames pleurales. Esta enfermedad es poco común y se puede presentar a cualquier edad, pero la mayoría de los pacientes están entre los 30 y 60 años de edad. Los hombres contraen esta infección con más frecuencia que las mujeres.
